Aptekor: History

Aptekor proudly began its story as the first pharmacy in Citrusdal. Founded by Louis Rontgen, in 1975, it quickly grew from a partnership of fellow pharmacists (in 1977) into a thriving group of 10 successful pharmacies. Just 10 years later, Aptekor opened its own wholesaler division to assist with internal deliveries.

With the rapid success of each arm of the business, the fellow partners decided to amicably divide up the company so that each could focus on their strengths. Louis continued his career handling the now independent wholesaler company, retaining the name. In just 5 years, he had matured Aptekor from one single vehicle to a fleet of delivery trucks, supplying not only the original pharmacies but opening up prospects in the Western Cape, Northern Cape and the Karoo. Pharmacies, hospitals and clinics were all now customers and business showed no signs of slowing down.

Soon, Louis' fleet was no longer able to efficiently deliver to the new clientele, in ever further-away places. As a result, Aptekor purchased an already established courier company (Viking Couriers) which facilitated the development of another new arm – Aptekor Couriers. Louis' son, Ludi, and daughter-in-law, Meline, joined the family business in 2005, as Financial Director and Accountant / HR Manager, respectively. Their personal qualifications added to their father's prosperity, combined with senior staff who have been with us since 1987 have helped make the company the success it is today.

Open 6 days a week, Aptekor Wholesale and Aptekor Couriers work hand-in-hand to offer their clients the best service experience possible. Aptekor Couriers is also open for non-pharmaceutical delivery services. We are proud to offer our services within the borders of several regions.
